A well-known stop for fresh-popped, kettle-cooked popcorn is adding flash-frozen ice cream to its menu in Kid's World Indoor Play Arena in Lafayette. The local Doc Popcorn business has turned into a co-branded location that now serves Dippin’ Dots and will celebrate with a grand opening event August 10 from noon – 2 p.m. The business is located at 110 Production Drive in Lafayette, and guests who attend can patriciate in an ice cream eating contest at 1 p.m., enter for raffles every 15 minutes to win free Dippin’ Dots and Doc Popcorn for an entire year so long as they are present during the entire grand opening and receive free small servings of ice cream and popcorn given throughout for everyone.
By combining two leading snack and treat brands in one space, the dual-concept store gives children and parents alike the opportunity to satisfy both sweet and savory snack cravings. The new co-branded franchise location is owned and operated by local husband-and-wife duo Patricia and Ben Jones. The couple of 25 years who grew up together in Louisiana first entered the business with a Doc Popcorn in Acadiana Mall, followed by the business becoming a traveling truck, and just converted to a permanent location in the Arena this summer. Building on the idea of spreading the fun, the couple decided to add the Dippin’ Dots sister brand to its offering, enabling families to partake in the sweet side of snacking too.
“We’re popping with excitement to sweeten the Kid's World Indoor Play Arena with Dippin’ Dots ice cream in addition to our Doc Popcorn product, as we continue to serve our Lafayette community,” said Patricia. “We know families will love the treats we have year-round.”
In late 2014 after Dippin’ Dots, innovator and market leader of flash-frozen ice cream, acquired Doc Popcorn, the largest franchisor of fresh-popped popcorn, the two companies announced they would begin opening co-branded locations around the country. In addition to the new Lafayette store, there are more than 20 other co-branded locations around the country with more opportunities in the pipeline. The Lafayette Dippin’ Dots/Doc Popcorn is open Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. as well as for private events on Monday.
