GREENWOOD, Ind. – (June 22, 2017) – Fresh-popped, kettle-cooked popcorn and flash-frozen ice cream treats come together in one sweet and savory Greenwood business as a husband-and-wife team opens their first co-branded Doc Popcorn/Dippin’ Dots location. The kiosk is located in the JCPenney Wing at Greenwood Park Mall and marks Doc Popcorn’s only physical presence in Indiana.
By combining two leading snack and treat brands in one space, the new dual-concept kiosk gives mall- goers the opportunity to satisfy any sweet or savory snack craving with the offerings of Doc Popcorn’s fresh-popped, kettle-cooked popcorn and Dippin’ Dots’ iconic flash-frozen ice cream and floats. The new location is a co-brand unit in every sense of the word, sharing the same store, counter, register and employees.
The dual-brand franchise is owned by husband-and wife team, Jeremy and Kim Westlund, who have been Dippin’ Dots franchisees since 2008. In addition to the Greenwood Park Mall co-branded kiosk, the couple owns seasonal Dippin’ Dots locations in Edinburgh Premium Outlets, Hamilton Town Center and at local summer fairs and festivals. They also distribute Dippin’ Dots to 20 high schools and three colleges in central Indiana.
“We’re thrilled to debut the Doc Popcorn/Dippin’ Dots co-branded kiosk in Greenwood Park Mall,” said Kim. “We know this is a great business with strong growth opportunities and love that it provides both sweet and savory snack options. The synergy of popcorn and ice cream treats through the dual-brand model offers balanced revenue streams for different seasons of the year. Everyone at Doc Popcorn has been so helpful through the co-brand process.”
Doc Popcorn has more than 100 mobile carts, kiosks and in-line stores around the world. As a better-for- you snacking option, Doc Popcorn creates its own proprietary flavor blends using high quality ingredients free of trans fat, MSG, artificial colors and preservatives. Gourmet popcorn flavors include Klassic Kettle, Sinfully Cinnamon, Triple White Cheddar, Sweet Butter, Cheesy Cheddar, Better Butter, Caramel Bliss®, Hoppin’ Jalapeno, Salt-n-Pepper, and can be mixed and matched for a more personalized treat. Flavors vary by location and season.
In late 2014 after Dippin’ Dots, the nation’s original beaded ice cream franchise, acquired Doc Popcorn, the largest franchisor of fresh-popped popcorn, the two companies announced they would begin opening co-branded locations around the country. In addition to the new Greenwood Park Mall kiosk, there are 16 other dual concept locations around the country with more opportunities in the pipeline.
The Doc Popcorn/Dippin’ Dots co-brand business model has a promising present and future.
“After we saw our guests’ positive response to the first co-brand location in Springfield, Missouri, and then in the others that followed, we’re confident in the two brands’ ability to complement each other and perform well in the same space,” said Rob Israel, co-founder and “Big Pop” of Doc Popcorn. “The new co-branded kiosk seamlessly combines the best of each brand, while also doubling product offerings and dayparts. We’re thrilled to add Greenwood, Indiana as a new point of presence for Doc Popcorn and opportunity for growth.”
The Doc Popcorn/Dippin’ Dots co-branded kiosk is open during Greenwood Park Mall hours, which are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
